Shigeo Sekito was a Japanese musician and composer born on December 1, 1945, in Japan's Ibaraki Prefecture. He started his musical career in the early 1970s playing jazz in various clubs and bars in Tokyo. He was known for his unique style of blending jazz, rock, and traditional Japanese elements in his music. His most famous work is the album "The World" released in 1973, which combined jazz fusion with traditional Japanese music and featured his own interpretation of the Japanese folk song "Sakura Sakura." Sekito continued to compose music for various artists and collaborated with musicians both in Japan and internationally until his death in 2018 at the age of 72. His work has inspired many contemporary Japanese musicians and continues to be revered by music lovers around the world.
